Kevin was born and raised in Boulder, CO, and obtained an undergraduate degree from Carleton College in Minnesota. After attaining a Ph.D. in nanoscale physics from the University of Illinois, he worked for IBM Research for one year, and then was hired as a tenure track professor of physics at his alma mater, Carleton College.
