Kevin Pettit
Kevin was born and raised in Boulder, CO, and obtained an undergraduate degree from Carleton College in Minnesota. After attaining a Ph.D. in nanoscale physics from the University of Illinois, he worked for IBM Research for one year, and then was hired as a tenure track professor of physics at his alma mater, Carleton College. However, in 1998, his second-year teaching there, he was severely injured in automobile accident and suffered a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He survived the injury, was treated as an in-patient in two hospitals for about 6 months total. After attempting to restart his carrier teaching physics for a few years, he lost his job at Carleton. Returning to his hometown of Boulder, he desired to put his efforts into an activity where his experience of having disabilities to be a quality that would aid, not hinder, his professional efforts. For this reason, he changed his field of study and attended the Iliff School of Theology where he gained Masters of Arts in Specialized Minister. Then, in 2013, Kevin founded the no-for-profit, 501(c)(3) certified, interfaith organization called Faith4All. The purpose of Faith4All is to help faith communities of all natures learn to better invite, embrace, include, and empower people living with disabilities into more active lives of faith in their community. He currently leads this organization and works within the United Church of Christ to promote faithful inclusion of people with disabilities into UCC churches in the Rocky Mountain Conference, and across the country.
